You know what it feels like to be really isekai'd? No? Me neither but at least that's how this game will make you feel. You woke up, snow everywhere, and every step you take, there might be something or someone that will ambush you. Of course you can just beat the hell out of them if you want to. It's their fault anyway.

Welcome to the world of Octopath Traveler! The game is just like any other JRPG you've played if ever you're into those except that it's in 3D!

Oh? It's 2D?! What?! Both?!

Oh yeah! It's both!

This is why the game really looks awesome! Explore the hand-drawn looking 3D-2D world, meet and talk with people (NPCs), Trade stuff with them, practice fighting with them for buffs, meet new people and add them in your team and... Wait wait wait, hey Sei! you can add any people in your team?!

Sure do kid! But you need the power of the red gem stuff to call people and talk to them 1 by 1 everytime you do!

You mean this is a gacha?

And what do you mean by talking to them 1 by 1?

Yes! It's a free to play mobile game. What do you expect? Devs got to have money somehow. You know.

Also, yes. You talk with every people you will get on the gacha. So if you pulled 10x, you will need to talk to each of them too! Considering you don't have them yet which is kind of time wasting for me.

Anyway... The game is still story-driven which is a bummer for people that can't read the language but you can feel it. The darkness, the emotion of the VA, and how the pixel characters move and react! It's so good that you might really want to play more of this game if only your VPN won't expire!

But Sei! There are free VPN apps from the Play Store! Yes... but it's just also a test on how much progress you can do on 7 days. And based on my playthrough, the game is fairly easy to play but still challenging enough to make you fear of losing. But hey! I defeated a level 11 Giant with my lvl 2 Chibis!

So if you're looking for an RPG to play on your phone, take a whim on this game! You might like it that you would wish it's not gacha.

Update : It was my first time tbh playing octopath traveller and i must say i absolutely love this !!!

Suprisingly i was very enjoy the gameplay a lot, it remind me with old school rpg.

You need vpn for creating account after that you can turn off your vpn, since this games is story heavy if you want to enjoy full experience you need understand japanese, the story quiet good for me.

Square Enix games especially the jp version have long sustainablity so i have a great expectation for Nier Reincarnation since it was same publisher and Yoko Taro story never fail.

Have fun i will enjoy this games while wait for Nier Reincarnation release in 23 December.

Will upgrade my review after the release, the story seem deep, the only problem maybe in the gacha system if only this game was one paid only it will be best. Please consider if you want to play it for a long time periode since it was square enix games be aware have fun.

Update (11/02/2020): I'm absolutely hooked. Graphics and music is stunning. The HD-2D style really works. Nostalgic yet modern. Combat is fun with just enough complexity but easy to navigate. Storyline is engaging and DARK. It will make you feel sick but that's what I like about it. There is gacha, but you can beat the story with 4 star characters. Because of the unique combat system lower tier characters become useful enough to use once you kickstart your journey. I can't give it a full score because of the VPN though. If I lived in Japan this would def be a 5/5. *Side note: One of the executive producers used to work on Another Eden before he quit and moved to SE, hence the resemblance of the game system. First impressions (10/28/2020) Not sure how to feel yet. First impression is good and will update scores later but the VPN is a huge turn-off. I want to play it in Japanese and who knows if they will include it in global versions. From what I know they usually don't and it's just mind boggling they don't consider Japanese outside of Japan. I'm sure the VPN means they will release a global version later, hence my rants.. I hope they don't block VPN later also. There's a chance they might so I'm not investing heavily into it just yet.
