You know what it feels like to be really isekai'd? No? Me neither but at least that's how this game will make you feel. You woke up, snow everywhere, and every step you take, there might be something or someone that will ambush you. Of course you can just beat the hell out of them if you want to. It's their fault anyway. [厲害] Welcome to the world of Octopath Traveler! The game is just like any other JRPG you've played if ever you're into those except that it's in 3D! [開心] Oh? It's 2D?! What?! Both?! [驚訝] Oh yeah! It's both! [哇噻] This is why the game really looks awesome! Explore the hand-drawn looking 3D-2D world, meet and talk with people (NPCs), Trade stuff with them, practice fighting with them for buffs, meet new people and add them in your team and... Wait wait wait, hey Sei! you can add any people in your team?! [哇噻] Sure do kid! But you need the power of the red gem stuff to call people and talk to them 1 by 1 everytime you do! [發火] You mean this is a gacha? [可憐] And what do you mean by talking to them 1 by 1? [為什麼] Yes! It's a free to play mobile game. What do you expect? Devs got to have money somehow. You know. [厲害] Also, yes. You talk with every people you will get on the gacha. So if you pulled 10x, you will need to talk to each of them too! Considering you don't have them yet which is kind of time wasting for me. [發怒] Anyway... The game is still story-driven which is a bummer for people that can't read the language but you can feel it. The darkness, the emotion of the VA, and how the pixel characters move and react! It's so good that you might really want to play more of this game if only your VPN won't expire! [大哭] But Sei! There are free VPN apps from the Play Store! Yes... but it's just also a test on how much progress you can do on 7 days. And based on my playthrough, the game is fairly easy to play but still challenging enough to make you fear of losing. But hey! I defeated a level 11 Giant with my lvl 2 Chibis! [開心] So if you're looking for an RPG to play on your phone, take a whim on this game! You might like it that you would wish it's not gacha. [厲害]

Update (11/02/2020): I'm absolutely hooked. Graphics and music is stunning. The HD-2D style really works. Nostalgic yet modern. Combat is fun with just enough complexity but easy to navigate. Storyline is engaging and DARK. It will make you feel sick but that's what I like about it. There is gacha, but you can beat the story with 4 star characters. Because of the unique combat system lower tier characters become useful enough to use once you kickstart your journey. I can't give it a full score because of the VPN though. If I lived in Japan this would def be a 5/5. *Side note: One of the executive producers used to work on Another Eden before he quit and moved to SE, hence the resemblance of the game system. First impressions (10/28/2020) Not sure how to feel yet. First impression is good and will update scores later but the VPN is a huge turn-off. I want to play it in Japanese and who knows if they will include it in global versions. From what I know they usually don't and it's just mind boggling they don't consider Japanese outside of Japan. I'm sure the VPN means they will release a global version later, hence my rants.. I hope they don't block VPN later also. There's a chance they might so I'm not investing heavily into it just yet.

Update : It was my first time tbh playing octopath traveller and i must say i absolutely love this !!! [開心] Suprisingly i was very enjoy the gameplay a lot, it remind me with old school rpg. [害羞] You need vpn for creating account after that you can turn off your vpn, since this games is story heavy if you want to enjoy full experience you need understand japanese, the story quiet good for me. [發困] Square Enix games especially the jp version have long sustainablity so i have a great expectation for Nier Reincarnation since it was same publisher and Yoko Taro story never fail. [哇噻] Have fun i will enjoy this games while wait for Nier Reincarnation release in 23 December. [懵懂] Will upgrade my review after the release, the story seem deep, the only problem maybe in the gacha system if only this game was one paid only it will be best. Please consider if you want to play it for a long time periode since it was square enix games be aware have fun. [微笑]

Octopath was developed by the same people who created I am Setsuna and Last Story. It was a phenomenon when it was released Its like Persona 5 in a sense that turn based RPG's are still alive and kicking! So when I heard about Champions of the Continent being released as a gacha game Im very skeptical about it. So ill break it down for the ff aspects. Story: ★★★★★ In truth Im mesmerized on how the story developed it has the same qualities of storytelling that you find on the original game tho its short and leaves you with a cliffhanger, youll say f**k I want more! Graphics: ★★★★★ 2.5D Pixel art style is simply amazing its eye candy! The lush environment gives you a reason to look at it and gaze upon the beauty of the world they created. Gameplay: ★★★★★ Old school turn based RPG. The characters and boss animation in battle are superb Theyre breathing with life. Score: ★★★★★ If its Square Enix it has to have high quality music and yes it does! That eargasmic orchestra is present in this game and once you turn that headset on its a treat you wont forget. Gacha: ★★★ Pull rates are okay same thing as other Gacha games out there Final Verdict: ★★★★ "The gacha mechanic wont ruin the fun or experience youll get from this game though "This couldve been a paid $60 game"

Art is done in so-called “HD-2D”. Backgrounds are mainly 3D objects with pixel art textures, and characters are pixel art sprites. It is essentially how one might remember what old games looked like through the rose-tinted lens of nostalgia. Octopath Traveler – Champions of the Continent is a prequel to the original game . It takes place in the same world, and when clearing different side stories, players can encounter the original heroes. The battle system is essentially the same as the original, with slight adjustments made to make it work for 8 characters instead of 4. This time instead of 8 main characters, there were 64 at launch, with new additions popping in every couple of weeks. Each character represents one of 8 weapon types and one of 8 elements. Sometimes it is wise to focus on specific elements and weapons when building a team, but at other times a diverse team can help more. Characters also have their rarity ratings from 3 to 5 stars, which affect their max level and available skills. Early on, all characters are viable, but a solid team of 4 stars or better is necessary towards the end of the current storyline. The reason Champions of the Continent stands out from the masses of mobile games is because it pretty much plays like a premium console game. The exploration is not simplified in any way. The world is yours to explore with hidden roads, bosses, and treasure chests. Towns have plenty of NPCs to interact with. Characters with yellow boxes have items you can buy or take a risk and try to haggle the price down. Red boxes mean the NPC can be fought for the items and a blue box means you must beg for the item with a certain success rate depending on the item. Initially, three stories revolve around three different antagonists. Players can choose the order they want to clear these stories. After clearing all of them, the game opens up more with one storyline leading players forward. The exploration and sidequests are still there, of course. Many of the playable characters have their own storylines available to discover after reaching far enough in the main story. There are no social features. No friends to add. No leaderboards. No guilds. No PvP. No co-op. Nothing. Character gachas and the possibility of continuing the battle with premium currency after losing are the only monetization mechanics the game has. New gacha banners with new characters pop up every now and then for those who want to collect all of them and have the most diverse options available for team building. Once you have a character, you can keep on pulling from gacha for duplicates for faster upgrading, but you can also farm the same shards from boss dungeons once a day if you are not in a hurry.

the game is required VPN but you can get vpn very easy in playstore. i already tried open vpn (free), turbovpn and tunnelbear all of it can successfully access the game. the downside : - this game is heavily in story aspect so if u can't read Japanese it will take out 60% of the enjoyment. - this is a baseless talk but i don't think they will release the eng version cause the current state of the game right now didn't require you to top up much. if u play Octopath traveler before, you will understand every mechanic in this game, its the same game mechanic with "gacha" and a few added new system. yeah the combat is still fun and engaging like the previous installment but i prefer this because of the gacha char it makes you feel, you have a special team.

##No VPN needed## If you rated it 3 stars or less, then i should believe you never play the NS version of octopath before. If you are expecting square enix keep develop the same old "RPG", then this is not the game for you. If you are complaining about how hard of this game, then you should skip this, this is not the game for children.
