So time for a short review of this game (imo ofc):
*Notice: this game only in America and EU server, you might need VPN if you want to play the game outside these server and at the first time, you don't need turn on VPN after first time play.
1. Graphic: 8-bit style on gameplay and Grandblue Fantasy art style influnce in artwork and portrait, a good match for this game
2. Sound/Music: Seems OK and relaxing to me 🤔
3. Gameplay:
- If you know or play game "Another Eden", you might have a feeling "why this game have so many AE elements". Yea, you can say they are almost identical in gameplay (in map exploration, movement, questline, enemies encounter, class system/upgrade, status board, ...)
- Typical turn-base JRPG with a bit different in battle style (party 4 frontline members and 4 backline members, backline members can switch to attack in turn, swipe a skill to boost skill effect when enough BP)
- Gacha kinda normal to me, pity with point exchange on rate-up encounter and 200 pull for a Seal in Regular Encounter
- Daily/Weekly quest are OK to me, reward is quite decent
- Most interesting in this game is about Influnce System , it decided most things in this game such as: Overall Status, Different Action on most NPCs in map, Tales,...
+ There're 3 types of Influnce: Fame, Power, Wealth, each served different tales you choose from beginning and action on NPCs (you can also hire these NPCs to use their unique skill in battle (limited use))
+ Say about action on NPC, you can get items from them base on Influence you have: Fame type need your luck to get them, Power type need battle, Wealth type need you buy items or haggle to reduce price with chance.
-
4. Story: It's good, not too perfect imo 🤔
5. Other:
- Slow loading time
- Sometimes I really need an option to skip tutorial when you start from beginning ☹️
*So to say about this game, this is an OK game to play, and as gameplay is almost like offline game, you can play the game without worrying about losing important content (tbh this game is the same as Another Eden 😑)
{edit}
Great turn-based RPG. Superb game mechanics, better story than the OG Octopath, and same amazing sountrack! I've been playing for over 175+ hours as of writing this review.
Just finished Bestower of Wealth Ch. I, meaning that I have finished all the available Main Story Quests, and the Nameless Town Sidequests, and the only I can say is, it's great.
The flow of the story keeps you invested enough, and unlike the original Octopath Traveler, it all divulges into a greater picture, making it all interconnected, something the OG missed.
Battles can be as complex as it can be, as you get further into the game, which makes every decision you make equally important as your character roster. The thing is, compared to the other games of SE, this has one of the worst Gacha mechanics. So if you're not lucky, you'll have to be really creative and be very strategic in your approach, because the pity system is laughable, and has one of the most atrocious rates. Pair that with how scarce the Rubies are in the endgame, good luck.😂
Prices for pulls are on the high end, too, which does not help the game even more. $30 for a single multipull, without any guarantees... That's just awful. And, with the new Bravely Default Collab, they have the Step Up Banner for Adelle (where you can get a 5 star if you pull until the end) being locked for Paid Rubies, as opposed to how the JP server got it... Yeah, CotC devs are greedy bastards.
Overall, it's an excellent Turn Based JRPG, with an amazing soundtrack and story, and is ruined by it's laughable gacha mechanics and horrible prices.
These are the future units you guys need to watch out for
A2 - Ultimate physical firepower can deal upto 99999 damage
Cyrus - Magical potency fire ice lightning damage
Rinyu - Buffer decrease SP consumption, atk and damage
Alfen - BP and Status Recovery
Ophelia and Agnes - resurrection ability
Cecily - BP passer +1 BP at start and 4x spear, book, axe
Richard of Riven - 4x sword debuff, self buff
TL:DR: Play until the credits, then drop for 2-3 years
The game is very decent, writing is superb, music is awesome, but...
Difficulty skyrockets very quickly:
In *second* part, recommended level for the final boss is *60*, that's more than half of characters' progression!
And there will also be Parts 3 and 4, with lvl 70-90 requirements!
I'm sure that devs have plans to release 8 parts total (given JP's revenue), meaning that now, in first third of the game, you are doing the grind that is suppose to be spread across entire story!
I totally recommend beating Part 1 (takes less than 10h) and then wait for a few years until game's difficulty and grind are reduced and more content is added.
Also, play original Octopath Traveler and its sequel
Note that you *actually have to play this game*, and playing just for gacha pulls would be difficult, since rubie income is quite low... but given the quality, you can enjoy it nonetheless!
i pre-registered and was granted access to the beta, so far i've got about 15 hours clocked on it and i'm thoroughly enjoying it so far, it plays almost exactly like the old octopath, combat was changed slightly to fit with mobile. the purchase of premium currency is currently locked due to beta so i can't comment on the pricing of gacha pulls.
overall a great game so far
Great game excited my expectations
Pros
It's a classic jrpg (fights-visuals) reminding me the good old days of FF (final fantasy) either the first games or the tactics series takes you back to the past .
Combat system (Player abilities ,Break system, Animations,
Sound is unique and seriously EPIC
Nice collab's
It's a f2p single player jrpg it's not neccesary to buy currency i am playing f2p since launch and pretty good
You can start so many 'side quests'
And you can do the quests in the order you like
Cons
Will it be crazy if i say none?
Some people might not like that you cant skip the scenes but i like them so i don't mind at all
I have played all the Octopath game's it's not better than any of them but it's a free game and it's pretty decent why complain ?
The graphics for a pixelated game are, wow, just beautiful. Gives a 3D effect and did an amazing job with the lighting. The gameplay is simple yet addictive and the storyline offers you the biggest plot twist I've ever witnessed, I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot but of course it all depends on what you're looking for in a game. Difficult boss battles enable you to think strategically which I love.
The story is very immersive and the voice acting provides depth to the emotion accompanied by the amazing ost. The gameplay is traditional turn based with modern features provided by the octopath series. The artworks are gorgeous and the pixel art are very detailed and nostalgic for many old school jrpg gamers. The gacha system is fair and the game is f2p friendly when it comes to providing players with gems and other useful items.
everything is good except how difficult the main story are. the boss is just brutal, the most needed in this game are QoL ,easier grind , story friendly easy difficulty and a less farming to create weapon if this happen people would enjoy this game more, put the hard difficulty for challange mission or maybe recollection mission thing
hey its like playing the actual octopath but you get shafted by the gacha!! all gacha things aside the games pretty good like i mentioned like playing the actual game! give it a try and "dont be so angry its only game"
