TLDR : It's good and worth it to try. Don't get wrong idea with that negative score. Mostly they are salty because the language barrier or auto-play (which is somewhat bullshxx why criticizing auto mode in 2021).
Review :
So, this is one of my most anticipated game in this year. After playing around a week on japan version ( now towards lv 40 160.000 CP), i will point out some of the good and bad things in here based on my own experience.
Good
- It's a FREE GAME
- an MMORPG game with Ghibli-esque vibe is very rare thing
- Character in-game (npc & our main) has fully animated with such good detail
- You will instantly fall in love with the fun and comedy part of the story
- I dare to say this Ni No Kuni : Cross World has one of the best rendering in aspect of special effect and lighting
- Salute to the environment artist
- So much content in one game (Pet system, World boss, Raid, Tetris, Aladdin, and more)
- Idle rewards (pet, offline farm, guild) are available and give you rewards daily
Not good
- The P2W issue. Maybe more like BDO level of p2w. But it's ok i think. Like, it's a FREE GAME afterall. Unless you want to be more rewarding, just play Ni No Kuni 1 & 2 on console.
- Need improvement in battle system ( target lock ) if you doing manually.
- Need a larger community outside of s-korea and japan. ( I can't even find english guide to learn what to do at beginning. Just found one in qooapp recently)
- Roadblock in the story mode is so bad. You can manage by grinding for 1 day or so, but feel little bit a bad taste because of that.
- Need in game customer service or moderator so possible to report bug or glitch asap (there is one time i glitched by falling into river out of map in dragon boss raid, and i can't do anything but moving around in a other dimension)
Conclusion :
Graphic 5/5
Sound 5/5
Gameplay 4/5
Storyline 5/5
Value 4/5
Try it. It's a fine game. If you still babyrage at auto-mode, just go Genshin. Or, you crying about P2W? Try to see differently like, this lot of people doing hard work for making this product, and you can either spend some for them to running the server or maybe just don't.
Final word, please whenever you do review or something like that, do it with comprehensive. Don't bitxxing around of things you don't like but not mention all other good things are also exist.
(i am sorry if my grammar is not perfect)
ATTENTION:
If you're trying to switch server regions wether it be JP or KR servers and or change text language read ahead !
If you need additional help, contact me on Discord: ~Red#1969 and i will gladly guide you through. If you're on the JP server Pisces (うお座) and you're looking for English speaking friends or an English speaking kingdom add me on Discord or add me in game, my user is Ishima and my Kingdom is AngelStar. We also have an official No Ni Kuni Discord for all players, feel free to ask for help there as well: https://discord.com/invite/bhUHuB7
For Region change:
You NEED a VPN to switch regions, im currently on Japanese servers (うお座/Pisces) and chose those servers because i live in California and ping is relatively low so choose whichever will net the lowest ping. BE WARNED: Your progress will NOT transfer between regions! EDIT: IF it does not switch regions with a VPN, then you will NEED to Uninstall and Reinstall the game, and then Launch the game with your VPN on again, it should now finally switch the Region you desire to join!
For Language change:
This seems to be tied to System Language but i also believe it can be changed by simply using a JP/KR VPN although that also changes the servers as well so only use that method if you want to move regions while changing language.
I've been playing the game for a month on JP and felt like adding some notes. I'm currently level 64 with swordman and 40 with everyone else.
Let's get the easy stuff out of the way first:
Graphics: Ghibli-esque very colorful and pretty gives you the same fuzzy feeling of nostalgia as opening a Dragon Quest game.
Sound: Its fine, music is mostly recycled from Ni No Kuni 1 & 2 they could really add some original tracks.
Gameplay (Combat-Wise): You can auto pretty much anything (quests included) while grinding as long as you have the defense to hold on, potions are VERY cheap in this game. You also get a free 4 hour daily AI auto mode for grinding with the game closed which is nice. Aiming/Selecting enemies is pretty bad though.
Now for the meat: Keep in mind everything you see here is from the eyes of a 100% free to play player.
Characters/Quests: Pick 1 and only one, as your main, to plow through the story and be your bread maker. There's not enough resources to level everyone. Period. If you play from really far chances are your ping sucks and you wont be able to use the dodge command effectively, if you are lazy like me get a defense/tank oriented character like Swordman or Destroyer (this guy's voice actor is Akio Otsuka just sayin), if you fancy ADC's in league and really enjoy suffering you might wanna get long-range characters like Rogue or Engineer to kinda kite enemies, but that's hard work. Witch has by far the highest DPS but weak defense.
Choosing what you like is also fine, I started with Rogue but it became a pain at around level 33. Keep in mind characters are locked on a server basis, pick a server you like or your friends play in from the beggining.
Eventually you will want to level every character to level 40. At level 20 and 40 for every character you get 25 bag spaces for a total of 250 extra, which has been more than enough. You might think that is a pain but there's good news: Summoned monsters and armor are interchangeable, only weapons are class specific (at least until now), meaning even if you deal slow damage to the enemies you are pretty much an unkillable Raid Boss for them.
You also get Xp and Item rewards again for every main quest. Sub Quests are one time only though and you should do them with your main for the extra Xp.
Quests are level locked, if you play a lot on a single sitting you will likely feel stuck for the first time at around level 30. Takes a while to grind reputation (via subquests) to open main quests too.
General Feel: Straight up, if you plan on playing this with a PC MMO mentality don't even download. This game is grind unfriendly and is meant to be played daily. Killing monsters gives laughable XP and what you are actually meant to grind are drops for the collection logs and some skill tomes.
What you should be doing is everything that you can do on a daily basis and unfortunately that is too much content to review, the game usually does a good job of keeping you aware of what still can be done via the notification bell in the top right corner of the screen. Keep in mind a lot of content is locked in the beginning as you would expect in any RPG.
And no, contrary to what you might think even payers have a lot of restrictions on daily activities.
The game is also very rewarding, pretty much everything you do gives you a perma status buff, collection logs, failing to craft itens, titles, opening chests, finding view spots on the map, etc...
Gacha/Resources: Not bad at all for gacha standards, if you come from something like OG Brave Exvius or FGO you'll feel like a god. You can also fuse duped itens for a buff. (6 fused 3☆ itens equal around a 4☆ item and are usually easier to achieve)
What you should aim for at the beginning of the game is to get every 3☆ weapon for your character and keep fusing dupes afterwards. There's two different gachas in place for weapons, the paid one (in which you can also use free tickets from events and dailies) and the free one in which you use resources from grinding and quests. The free option is also separated in armor and weapons, since what weapons come is determined by which class you are trying it with (you can collect with everyone and open with your main for example).
You can expect around 20 to 40 free summons a day depending on if you got more resources or recipes from farming, rates for 3☆ and 4☆ are really not bad. You also get a guaranteed 4☆ every 200 summons as a fail safe for both the free and paid options. Just pay attention to the counter if you want to nail the guaranteed as a weapon or armor. You also get a guaranteed 4☆ every 14 days as a daily login bonus.
Creatures follow a similar system for the paid version, for the free one you can hatch eggs (kinda like Pokemon) that hatch every 2 hours. But really don't stress too much over them since they are not character specific.
The game also has been very generous with login bonuses and events at least for this first month. Save your first 2k diamonds to buy a daily login pack on the shop that gets you 131% of your currency back plus 2 3☆ Accessories and a lot of gold on the course of 7 days. Not sure if repeatable.
Bosses: Except for raid bosses, all bosses have multiple difficulty settings meant to accommodate everyone, starting at around level 30 and jumping around 15~20 levels per stage.
Raid Bosses spawn every 6 hours and everyone anywhere gets a shot at it, including direct teleports that are really cheap. Consider levelling a long range class for farming these, as it doesn't matter how much damage you did(unless you are in the top 3) just participating is enough. This is the best method to get accessories in the game. Wait for the whales to reduce the life enough, close in, give a little tap with your rifle or bow and backoff. Easy.
Server/Language/Kingdoms(Clans): Another aspect that unfortunately is too much content to review is clans, get around level 30 and try to enter one, Period. I've heard comments that Korean players are kinda cold to foreigners, if you don't have a favorite language stick to the chinese or japanese servers.
If you downloaded the game and the updates but got stuck in Korea and want to change to Japan, before uninstalling the game and doing everything from zero again try the following: Go into the apps menu of your phone, select the game, clear cache and data, now use a VPN connect to Japan and log in, worked for me without having to install it from zero. You only need the VPN for the very first access. Have fun!
The game is good but i have a hard time to grind the exp because it is totally a P2W game. I try to play it longer however im getting exhausted since i can't do anything if i don't buy something to level up. You can't proceed with the new chapter when your power is still low and that's how i got stuck thus can't go futher. i don't know if i should continue to play or not. im not getting excited anymore since im F2P.
Korea game youtuber state get ready to spend minimum $5k to stay competitive. i played f2p and opened 50 box for a 4 star equipment got nothing so i agree with low rates. which made me quit after 5days since it is must for boss and future mission your growth stops there. you spend hours playing building and then thats it nothing more unless you spend money or else they want you to quit. Some claim the Korean youtube gamers are part of scheme since when they open they got 4 star equipment right away while the average joe got nothing. after trying myself I agree 100%
Full p2w game and autoplay. It have season pass ,costume and equipment increase stats.
Size only 3.6gb and it's mmorpg not like genshin impact.
Graphics is good and have many graphics option even TAA is included😂😂.Game have 3 voices language:Japan,English and Korean. For fun is okay i guess.
If u know how to make this game running in android emulator please tell me.Thx
i'm a working man, Auto mode is a must. and this game has that,, so i will play this game in the good time. the graphic not doubt,, one of the best,, the gameplay usual just like others. but can be forgiveness for the design character and the NPC, and camera they are like alive,,,
After play 3 hours, I can't login 😓
It's has touchscreen bug in the character selection, I can't apply even I touch apply button in the correct position. Overall, this game has beautiful world to explore, gacha feature, and adorable graphics by studio Ghibli.
Oh yeah one more thing, you can force the language to partial English but it's required root access to change it. Here the tutorial link https://pastebin.com/kB4eM0Ch
this game was worth it! its smooth and the graphics are fine, plus the characters were cute, but I can't fully understand the game since it's Korean lol. someone please translate some of the words in settings. I cant find a proper translator for that. btw, if u want to play this, then I suggest you to go for it. it's good and fun to play:>
